Death to Fear Mongering: My First Time in Colombia Episode
Hi guys! I’ve missed you all so much during my recent time in Medellín, Colombia. I wanted to catch up and talk about something that triggered me before my trip, which I would love to see less of for the remainder of my time on this earthly plane: fear mongering.
Fear mongering has been something I have had to duck and weave through around me. Do you ever notice that when someone doesn’t understand something, they’d rather give it power by being afraid of the very thing they don’t understand? Since I made a promise to myself to do things that take me out of my comfort zone, I have been blessed to slowly but surely travel more and see the world. I’ve visited places with historical reputations that I’m interested in experiencing without anyone else’s fear mongering included.
We all know that Colombia has its past, but so does everyone else. Everyone has their secrets. Before I came here, my mother and I had a bit of an argument over fear-based rumors. Once she heard I was coming here, she immediately tried to make it negative because of things she had heard about Colombia. But I didn’t immediately think anything negative. I just viewed it as a blessing to visit a place I had never had the chance to experience.
I love my mother dearly, but I have unsubscribed mentally from that fear-based mentality that bad things will automatically happen just because bad things have happened in certain parts of the world or even to me before. I see it as bad things can happen inside your home or just by walking across the street, but I don’t choose to believe that it will happen to me. I feel safe on earth to live out my life’s mission until my time here is spiritually done.
All I want to do while I’m in this beautiful country is nourish my body with fresh fruit juices, fruits, delicious yogurts, and yummy food. I want to understand another side of their culture and be in communication with nature here. If I can accept that as my fate, then I am content. But to assume that danger is my fate ahead of time is not how I’m wired, and I refuse to live that way.
I hope this topic provides a great conversation starter among you and your group of friends or like-minded individuals. I just want us to not allow anyone, friend or foe, to add fear to our plans and the life we desire. I hope you resonated with this message, and I hope to see you here for another episode.
